Our client, an American-based company is expanding globally by being one of the first movers to bring cryptocurrency to Africa and the Middle East at large. The mission is to make cryptocurrency/blockchain and other FinTech services more accessible, and affordable, than ever before. This dynamic company is looking to hire a FinTech Attorney.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is someone who has:
  • Law degree from a recognized institution. Strong preference for an LLM
  • Member of the Bar Association
  • At least 10 years post call
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in FinTech or financial services
  • Fluency in English
  • Legal experience in international matters required
  • Ability to explain and deliver technical solutions in a practical way
  • Strong experience in contract law
  • Ability to manage simultaneously multiple projects involving various stakeholders and to deliver results within deadlines
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience in, and passion for, fintech, payments and, anti-money laundering
  • Familiarity with financial infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data privacy issues a plus
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong skills in analysis, problem solving and resolving disputes
  • Flexibility and effective team skills
  • Ability to assess issues and clearly articulate solutions that achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • Ability to prepare memoranda, contracts and other legal documents that are clear and comprehensible
  • Able to represent our client before external constituencies in a way that reflects well on the organisation
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Responsibilities
  • Provide support and legal advice to our client in meeting the legal needs of the organization spanning a variety of areas (including contracts, taxation, intellectual property, regulation, employment, and other matters)
  • Offer legal guidance and advice for maintaining legal presence in several African jurisdictions most importantly including local registration, corporate governance and regulatory requirements, and analyzing legal issues affecting company operations
  • Ensure intercompany agreements are maintained in place
  • Advise on applicable laws, rulings, and regulations of local, national and international laws
  • Oversee and manage company’s dispute resolution portfolio
  • Prepare, review and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
  • Facilitate corporate governance for our client and liaise with the Director of Legal Services, including facilitating shareholder and board meetings and review applicable minutes and resolutions
  • Oversee compliance with contracts, policies and standards
  • Select and collaborate with external counsel, as needed
