Save the Children Tanzania:

Save the Children began operations in Tanzania in 1986. Currently, the Country Program is implementing development and humanitarian programming in 10 regions in Mainland and Zanzibar in the thematic areas of: child rights governance, child protection, education and health & nutrition. The estimated value of the Country Program’s portfolio for 2020 is $13M.


PROGRAMME OVERVIEW:
The programme is implementing and researching the impact of a series of low cost interventions to support children from conception to the transition to primary school on children’s’ learning outcomes. Programme interventions include:
Parenting support on children’s development and school readiness for caregivers of children aged 0-3 and 4-6 years old
School and teacher focused interventions on children’s learning during pre-primary through continuous professional development and a whole-school approach to improved pre-primary learning.
Systems level interventions that include increasing support for, and changing the discourse around, caregivers’ roles and creating enabling environments for children’s development and reduction of violence in homes, communities and schools.
Engaging Local Government Authorities in programme design and oversight and using research and learning to influence decision making and planning.

Implementation is supported by a significant MEAL and research component to generate learning and implementation and impact evidence.
